The Eastern front was formed in the summer of 1914 (when the war broke out), as it was the existing divide between Russia (East), Austria/Hungary and Germany (West). Throughout the war many battles were fought along this territory, many of which were grim. The WW1 Game Series currently includes Tannenberg and Verdun (set on the Western Front).

On the other side of Europe, a very different war took place, between Germany and Austria-Hungary on one side and Russia on the other. There was a lot more movement on the Eastern Front than there was in the trenches of the Western Front.
